This English mahogany circular extension dining table is based on a design by the famed craftsman Robert Jupe. Complete with its original leaves, the table’s circular top is formed of eight segments with a brass tip. When the top is rotated via the removable crank handle, an ingenious mechanism causes the sections to diverge, allowing a set of leaves to be inserted for an increase in space. What was once a table that could seat six to eight individuals easily transforms into a table for 12. This revolutionary mechanism is set upon pedestals that reside in its handsome cross base. Expertly restored, it comes complete with a later leaf-case enclosing its set of eight leaves.

Such designs, known as "patent furniture," are some of the most fascinating pieces of furniture in the world.
